Why is my pool cloudy?
If you’re asking yourself why your pool is green or cloudy, you’ve come to the right place. Green or cloudy pools are and can be a common problem for homeowners every season and sometimes more than once a season.
Here are a few of the reasons with some simple solutions:
1 – Circulation – Things to ask yourself; are your filters clean? When was the last time you backwashed? Do you have a clogged impeller? Baskets are dumped? Air in the system? Are you running your pool long enough?
Poor circulation is a key component on the clarity of your pool water. You should be running your filtration system at least 6-10 hours a day during the summer months, in Phoenix Arizona. Your pool’s water should have the opportunity to turn over its water at least 2 times in a cleaning cycle.
2 – Chemical Imbalance – Chemical imbalance can come from a series of issues, too high of a chlorine, too low of a chlorine, too high of PH and too low of PH, same goes with alkalinity, Total Dissolved Solids and the Cynauric acid. To save you on all the boring details, get yourself some test strips and keep the range they guide you on the container. Other options would include automation and chem feeders that you can adjust and read at your fingertips through an app on your phone. There are also chemical resistant algae issues and phosphates (which is food for algae and will turn your pool green quickly).
3 – Usage & Foliage – Dogs, ducks, trees, plants, grass, dirt, golf courses, seasonal, kids, parties, adults and ALL THE THINGS! Be prepared and know your pool for season – keep that cloudy abay!
